Unity vs. Godot for enterprise
Here are 8 reasons why Godot works well for our use case:
If you read our earlier blog on Godot, you may be wondering what it is that we like about the software and why we prefer it to Unity for the games we build.
1) It’s open source, if something is broken we can dig into source and investigate and fix it.
2) It has a clear, small code base and is easy to understand.
3) The iteration speed and stability is good (compared to Unity).
4) There’s not the feature creep we have seen with Unity.
5) We didn’t need extensions for basic things in our use case.
6) There isn’t the licensing restrictions, which is quite liberating.
7) There is the capability of building more encapsulated game elements, e.g., it's harder to accidentally change properties inside instantiated objects.
8) And the build times are insanely fast for web!
Testing Godot
The licensing changes with Unity motivated us to try Godot for one of our games. We delivered a talk at GodotCon Berlin describing our findings.
